The seller offers for sale this 1973 Porsche 911 Targa, an early G-series model built in October 1973 and featuring the desirable narrow body design with chrome accents, reminiscent of the earlier long-hood generation. This example was delivered new to the US and is fitted with a 2.7-litre flat-six engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, paired with a 5-speed type 915 manual transmission. Both engine and gearbox are matching numbers.
From 2019 to 2021, the car underwent a documented, restoration using a structurally sound and accident-free base. The body was stripped to bare metal and receiving a respray in the original Sahara Beige. The mechanical restoration included an overhaul of the braking system—refurbished calipers, new discs and hoses, and a reconditioned pedal box.
Suspension and steering components were renewed, with new front shock absorbers and tyres installed. The engine received a major service, including replacement of crankshaft seals, injector refurbishment, and overhaul of the air intake heater. A new fuel pump was fitted, and the gearbox was rebuilt with a new clutch. Electrical components such as the alternator and starter motor were serviced, and a new battery was installed.
The interior has been reupholstered with Porsche tartan fabric on the front seats. Door panels and carpets are new, and the original dashboard and steering wheel were refurbished. The car retains its factory-correct equipment and design, presenting as a coherent and complete period example.
The paint and bodywork remain in good condition. Chrome trim and rubber seals are in place, and panel alignment appears even.
The interior shows no significant wear and has an overall tidy and authentic appearance.
The Porsche 911 entered a new era in 1973 with the introduction of the G-series, which included the Targa variant seen here. Designed with improved crash safety and compliance with new US regulations, the G-model featured integrated bumper bellows and revised mechanical systems while retaining the spirit of the original 911. The early G-models (1973.5–1974) are particularly desirable for their transitional character. They combine classic narrow-body styling and chrome details with updated mechanicals. These cars maintain the light, responsive driving dynamics of the long-hood cars while incorporating stronger structures and enhanced reliability. The 2.7L flat-six, introduced with this series, was known for strong midrange torque and improved drivability, especially when paired with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Targa variants offered the open-air driving experience of a convertible with additional chassis rigidity and safety from the fixed roll bar. As emissions and safety regulations increased in the mid-1970s, these early examples became the last to offer the classic Porsche feel in a more compliant format.
This particular 911 Targa represents an opportunity to acquire a thoughtfully restored and mechanically updated car with matching numbers and desirable early-G features. Its tasteful period-correct interior updates and original Sahara Beige paint give it both visual appeal and collector relevance.
