– Vermillion Red paint

The seller offers for sale this 1979 MG MGB Cabriolet, finished in Vermillion Red and featuring a 1.9-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a manual transmission. The car has been owned by the seller for 25 years and has covered 42,300 miles (verified by documentation). The engine was rebuilt at 101,000 miles, and the car has received several mechanical and cosmetic updates over the years. It includes an overdrive gearbox, electronic ignition (123 Ignition), a stainless-steel exhaust, and twin SU carburetors that were recently overhauled. The car also features a new radiator (2024), a renewed dynamo, and a main power cut-off switch.

The bodywork is in solid condition, having been rust-protected when purchased and has some small signs of use. The Vermillion Red paint remains in presentable shape, with the rubber bumpers resprayed in black for a refreshed look. The car rides on new 15-inch Minilite wheels with fresh tires (covered 500 miles). A new black mohair soft top was fitted in 2022. The interior features black leather seats, which were reupholstered some years ago, and all gauges, including the tachometer and speedometer, have been serviced and recalibrated.

Mechanically, the MG is reported to be in driving condition. The braking system was inspected, and the master cylinder was replaced 1.5 years ago. A new clutch cylinder has also been installed. The car holds a valid Dutch APK (MOT) until April 2026.

The MG B was produced from 1962 to 1980 and remains one of the most iconic British roadsters of its era. The 1979 model belongs to the later rubber-bumper series, introduced in 1975 to meet US safety regulations. While some enthusiasts preferred the earlier chrome-bumper design, the rubber-bumper models offered improved crash protection. The MG B featured a unibody construction, which was innovative for its time, making it lighter and more rigid compared to traditional body-on-frame sports cars. The 1.8L engine (bored to 1.9L in this example) was known for its durability and ease of maintenance, making the MG B a favorite among classic car enthusiasts. The model was eventually discontinued in 1980, marking the end of MG’s traditional two-seater sports cars until its revival in the 1990s.

Noted imperfections include minor wear on the interior consistent with its age. The tonneau cover is included, with a long cover in near-new condition and a shorter one showing signs of use.
